For his second creation at Vidy, Thomas Ostermeier works with the same French-speaking actors of his staging of Ibsen’s Ghosts. Starting a dialogue with Chekhov about love and theatre, he reveals the contemporary resonances of the Russian author’s masterpiece.

For The Seagull, his second creation at Vidy, Thomas Ostermeier works with the same French-speaking actors of his staging of Ibsen’s Ghosts and once again commissions a translation from writer Olivier Cadiot. The German director starts a dialogue with Chekhov beyond the 20th century, about love and theatre. He unravels the stakes of each scene, which he strips of any
historical reconstruction, revealing the contemporary resonances of the Russian author’s masterpiece.
