The animated sculptures in Julie Monot’s performative installation are activated through encounters, spectral figures dancing between movement and stillness, flesh and object. A universe suspended on the borders of infernal worlds, magical dimensions and the margins of society.

Julie Monot continues her work on a corpus of performances and artworks that have in common a consideration for the total costume. The animated sculptures in her performative installation contain their share of ghosts, in the manner of baroque ballets or tragedies, but never embody the illustrious dead, giving form instead to anonymous metaphors between the animate and the inanimate, death and the living, movement and immobility, flesh and object. Its spectral characters are activated through encounters, as they clasp, embrace and leave one another, on the edge of infernal worlds, magical dimensions and the margins of society.
